AOC 2024 Team
Thank You

This is a public recognition of the contribution all the volunteers who made up the wonderful AOC 2024 team. Way back in 2018 we developed a Vision that this carnival would be organised by a team of orienteers who were willing to volunteer their time to be part of the AOC 2024 Team. That Vision was to provide orienteers from all over Australia and overseas with an experience that had three components- Great Maps, Great Courses, Great Arenas.

The AOC 2024 Team was made up of well over 60 volunteers from all clubs in NSW and some from interstate. Ron and I would like to thank you all for your contribution to the Team and share with you some of the comments we have received from competitors and spectators.

“What a weekend. Huge thanks from me, and I suspect from everyone. Great organisation, great terrain – and even pretty nice running weather. So many superlatives. And geez, what a map!! The big one I mean. All areas were outstanding, and all events challenging.”  Rosscoe

“Wow!! What a fantastic carnival. I just wanted to thank you, and your huge and wonderful team, for a truly memorable week.

From my point of view everything just went perfectly. I know that this can only happen when a vast amount of work has gone into the preparation. All the little details just made it great. For example, the different colours for each day which made finding the day in the Bulletin an absolute breeze – and then those carried through to the medal ribbons. Just fantastic attention to detail.” Mary McDonald

“Thank you to everyone in your team for all of the work you put into making the Aust Champs Carnival so successful. Having just finished organising the Qld Long Distance Championships, I can appreciate how much time and effort went into all of the components of the Carnival and managing such a big team of volunteers.” Liz Bourne

“It was great to be able to watch the events unfold via the Living it Live stream on Youtube, and the I appreciated the diversity of the coverage in terms of commentators, interviews, follow-cams, GPS tracking, etc. I understand the extensive volunteer effort to deliver events of this nature, so thank you very much for making it happen.”  Jonathan Hunt (NZ)

“Thank you to the whole team from the Hawkes Bay NZ crew.” Alistair Nicole

“Thank you. The kids had a ball.” Ken Mansell

Welcome - Australian Championship Carnival 2024

The Anaiwan and Kamilaroi people are the traditional owners of the country that encompasses current day Armidale and Uralla, and the local Indigenous population is still more than double that of the Australian average. The Anaiwan people settled the New England Ranges around Uralla and Armidale whilst the Kamilaroi headed west to the Inverell region.

Welcome to Armidale and Uralla – Orienteers have been coming to this region for decades to enjoy the amazing granite terrain and the beauty of the region. These granite outcrops extending north into Queensland, have over the years played host to many State and National Championship events.

This year is no exception as competitors will be treated to 3 Championship races on a brand new area with magical granite and fast, friendly vegetation. With the 7 events of this Championship carnival based in and around Armidale and Uralla, there is a large range of tourist activities as well as cultural activities to experience in the rest days.

Moira Whiteside Bequest

This carnival is supported by a grant of $20,000 from the Moira Whiteside Bequest through Orienteering Australia. Orienteering is the beneficiary of a magnificent bequest by Moira Whiteside of Garingal Orienteers in NSW.

A great many orienteers from NSW will have many great memories of Moira who was a very active orienteer.  A valued Garingal member, Moira through her work in sports education, travelled the state extensively. She valued the work of volunteers in orienteering.

Moira’s wishes were that our largest national events, the Australian Orienteering Championships, benefit from her estate.

Donations to support AOC 2024

Tax deductible donations to the AOC 2024 can be made via the Australian Sports Foundation.  These donations will support our aim to provide an outstanding carnival experience. Donations can be made by clicking on the Australian Sports Foundation.
